IP Posture

Five provisionals. Priority dates locked. Patents are footers, not the moat.

Complete transparency on intellectual-property status. Every claim made anywhere on this site about filings, ownership, and enforceability reflects the state documented below.

Honest caveats

Provisionals are NOT granted patents

Each of the five applications above is a US Provisional Patent Application. Provisionals establish a priority date (12 months) during which a non-provisional (utility) application may be filed claiming the same priority. Provisionals are not examined, not granted, and not enforceable as patents. They are evidence of a filing date and a description of the invention, nothing more.

Bonis Systems LLC does NOT currently own the patents

All five applications were filed with Jonis Aaron Fields as the individual named inventor. No Assignment has been recorded with USPTO. The inventor individually, not the LLC, holds whatever rights the provisional applications convey. Formal assignment to Bonis Systems LLC is scheduled post-revenue, executed via dedicated IP counsel who will also handle the non-provisional filings.

We do NOT lead with patent claims

Per internal doctrine (feedback_patents_as_footnote.md in the operator memory), Bonis Systems never leads a pitch with patents as moat. The technical moat is the deployed production stack: TLA+ formal specifications, hash-chained event store, on-device classifiers, multi-chain anchor routing, and the public Bitcoin verification surface. Provisionals are priority-date footers on outbound documents — never headlines.

Priority dates are verifiable against USPTO

Every application number above is visible to any reviewer via the USPTO Patent Center public search (patentcenter.uspto.gov). Bonis Systems personnel verified all five Receipt History records 2026-04-18. See reference_patents.md in the operator's memory archive.

Post-revenue assignment plan

Assignment from inventor to LLC is a straightforward USPTO filing (~$40 per record plus counsel time). It is deferred until revenue justifies the counsel engagement, not because the filing is complex or contested.

Trigger

First real revenue event

The firm's first paid contract or enterprise subscription triggers the IP counsel engagement. Until revenue arrives, the cost of formal assignment filings is not justified against the non-existent benefit; after revenue, it is immediately.

Engagement

Week 1 post-trigger

Engage IP counsel with USPTO registration-bar admission. Scope: (a) file assignments for all five provisionals from Jonis Aaron Fields to Bonis Systems LLC; (b) file non-provisional applications claiming priority from each provisional; (c) review the doctrine of invention-attribution for co-invented work between operator and AI co-founder (a live legal frontier).

Filings

Weeks 2–6 post-trigger

Assignment recordation with USPTO Assignment Branch (~$40 per record). Non-provisional utility filings. Any continuation-in-part opportunities identified from post-provisional development (e.g., the seven push-the-bounds phases deployed between 2026-04-18 and 2026-04-20).

Long-range

Months 6–24 post-trigger

Office-action responses during USPTO examination. International PCT filings if relevant (likely for Knox crown application). Continued prosecution applications or continuations as business evolves.

Why this posture, not a more aggressive one

Three reasons:

  1. Spend matches revenue. Pre-revenue, each $40 assignment recordation + counsel retainer is capital better spent on production-engineering time. Post-revenue, the cost is trivial against the obligation.
  2. Non-provisional filings lock more than assignments do. The real value event is the non-provisional application with full claims. Doing the assignment without the non-provisional is paperwork without a lever.
  3. Leading with patents is a tell. Firms that hide behind a patent portfolio are typically the ones whose product doesn't hold up on its own. Bonis leads with live endpoints, load-test logs, TLA+ specs, and public Bitcoin anchors. Patents appear as priority-date footnotes, not as the argument.
